PROGRAM NOTES
Arcus IX is an unabashedly fun piece for Solo F tuba and concert band which programmatically takes the listener on a purely joyful ride on cloud nine.
The solo part lies beautifully on the F tuba and provides some nice technical challenges as well. The band parts are challenging but not overwhelming falling in the 4+ to 5 on a Texas difficulty scale.
There are beautiful melodic lines for the tuba giving the gentle giant a chance to show its softer side however the majority of the work is speeding along with grace and lightness ending with an all out technical display of range and finger speed.
Arcus IX is a tremendous amount of fun for everybody involved especially the audience.
arcus From the Latin arcus (‘arch’). A cloud feature having a rolled appearance, with fragmented edges on the leading surface of cumulonimbus and occasionally cumulus cloud formations.
